She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1961 movie Judgment at Nuremberg. She began performing vaudeville at the age of two and a half. Many years after dying from a barbiturate overdose in 1997, she was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She married her fifth husband, Mickey Deans, in 1969. Her children, Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft, became singers and actors. Although she is best known for playing Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, she also starred in A Star is Born with James Mason.
